The Chore Jacket is inspired by the classic utilitarian outerwear which was originally made in France in the late nineteenth century for labour workers. The jacket was perfect for tough physical work designed with a loose fit body, button up collar and large roomy pockets for storing tools. Traditionally made in a heavy twill cotton this jacket is made with hand woven khadi denim, also durable and a perfect weight for layering up. This particular khadi denim is a heavy weight which makes this piece perfect to work throughout any season.
Made with 100% khadi, a traditional handspun and handwoven Indian cotton. We work closely with our weavers in the Bengal region of Eastern India to ensure the utmost care is employed in the production of our fabric. Khadi is in itself a celebration of ‘perfect imperfection’, with each yard visibly bearing the mark of hand craftsmanship. Pronounced in the 1920’s by Mahatma Gandhi as a ‘symbol of unity’, this industry continues to provide generations of Indian craftspeople with a sustainable livelihood.
