The Long Shirt is inspired by the traditional Indian dress called the Kurta. This garment has been dyed using the natural plant dye known as indigo. Drawn from the indigo plant, the dye is distinctive in its colour, each shade slightly different and will age beautifully with time. The most interesting hand stitched buttons made from scraps of the fabric line the front of the shirt. Finished with traditional kurta pockets and french seams showing the quality of craftsmanship. This relaxed fit shirt is easy to wear, it can be layered with other garments or worn as a single dress.
Made with 100% khadi, a traditional handspun and handwoven Indian cotton. We work closely with our weavers in the Bengal region of Eastern India to ensure the utmost care is employed in the production of our fabric. Khadi is in itself a celebration of ‘perfect imperfection’, with each yard visibly bearing the mark of hand craftsmanship. Pronounced in the 1920’s by Mahatma Gandhi as a ‘symbol of unity’, this industry continues to provide generations of Indian craftspeople with a sustainable livelihood.
